{Review} The Bluffer's Guide to Bond by Mark Mason

ISBN #: 978-1903096901
Page Count: 92

Description:

The truly accomplished bluffer knows how to play the odds. Scanning the social horizon before him, he selects those points where his subject will stand the highest statistical chance of being introduced, then prepares accordingly. We advise you to take this approach with Bond. Where do you bluff? You bluff where people gather. What do people do when they gather? They eat and drink. Tell them what Bond eats and drinks, and you'll have them in your thrall.

Charlene's Review:

Not only do we get a breakdown of each book/film, we are given insight into the similarities between Bond and writer/creator Ian Fleming, as well as speculation into why Bond preferred his martini shaken, not stirred. As a bonus, the famous "vesper" martini recipe is included. A portion is also given to the books versus film argument. As a reader, this is a no-brainer, as far as I can tell.

Perhaps the most enjoyable, for me, was the chapter on "Being Bond" complete with instructions on "smutty innuendo" and the use of one-liners. To top off your experience, you can visit bluffers.com and take a quiz to see how much you really know about Bond, James Bond. Dare I say I have never intentionally watched any of the James Bond films, nor read a book, so I felt as if I was truly going in blind when it comes to knowledge of all things Bond. Written in a neat, concise volume, The Bluffer's Guide to Bond covers everything you ever wanted to know, didn't know you needed to know, and anything you need to know to pretend you know everything. This is cliff notes for the sophisticate.
